PLAN YOUR PROJECT

Plan a mulch job
in three steps.

  • Measure the beds, not the yard. Length × width of each bed, in feet.
  • Check what is already down. Aim for 2–3 inches total, old layer included.
  • Run the numbers. The calculator turns your beds into cubic yards for your quote.

TWO COLORS

Black or brown
hardwood mulch.

Triple-shredded black mulch

Hardwood bark with black coloring. The dark finish makes foliage and flowers stand out and gives bed edges a crisp line.

Use it for
Front beds, new plantings and a high-contrast finish.

Triple-shredded brown mulch

Natural brown hardwood bark, shredded three times for a fine, even texture that knits together on the bed.

Use it for
Garden beds, wooded lots and a softer, earth-toned look.

Common questions.

How much mulch do I need?

Multiply each bed’s length by its width to get square feet. Divide by 108 for 3 inches of new mulch, or by 162 for 2 inches. The answer is cubic yards. The calculator does this bed by bed and subtracts the mulch already down.

How deep should mulch be?

2 to 3 inches total, including the old layer. Piling it deeper can hold too much moisture against roots. Pull mulch a few inches back from tree trunks and plant stems.

Should I choose black or brown mulch?

It comes down to looks. Black gives the strongest contrast against green plants and light stone. Brown reads more natural. If color matters, stop by and see the current pile before you order.

How many bags are in a yard of mulch?

About 13½ of the common 2-cubic-foot bags. On a bigger job, bulk saves the bag handling and the plastic.

Can I pick up mulch in my own truck?

Yes. We load pickups and trailers at the yard during open hours. Check your vehicle’s rated payload before you come, or schedule delivery.
